8) Season 5

There’s no denying that season 5 was a low point for The Walking Dead. It was the season that saw the show’s main characters finally arrive at the much-anticipated Alexandria Safe Zone, only to have it all go to hell almost immediately.

From there, the season devolved into a series of random fights and tidbits. There was the subplot with Daryl and Aaron, which felt completely out of place. There was also the whole “Ron trying to kill Carl” thing, which just didn’t work.

The season did have its moments, but they were few and far between. In the end, season 5 is definitely one of the show’s weakest seasons.

7) Season 2

Season 2 is a bit of a controversial pick for worst season of The Walking Dead. On the one hand, it was the season that introduced Hershel and Maggie, two characters who would go on to be fan favorites.

On the other hand, it was also the season that saw the show’s main characters scattered to the wind, with very little interaction between them. This made for a lot of filler episodes, and an overall sense that the show was treading water until it could get its characters back together.

3) Season 1

The Walking Dead’s first season is definitely its best. It’s the perfect introduction to the world of The Walking Dead, and it sets up the show’s characters and premise perfectly.

The first season is also packed with great moments, from Rick’s escape from Atlanta to the group’s first encounter with the Governor. Plus, who can forget that absolutely jaw-dropping season finale?

4) Season 6

Season 6 is when The Walking Dead really started to ramp up the action. After a few seasons of relatively slow-paced storytelling, season 6 delivered on the promise of non-stop thrills and chills.

This was the season that saw Rick and his group finally clash with Negan and the Saviors, leading to some of the most intense episodes of the show. It also featured the tragic death of a major character, which sent shockwaves through the fandom.

5) Season 7

Season 7 was a tough one for The Walking Dead fans. It was the season that saw Negan kill two beloved characters in brutal fashion, and it left many viewers wondering if the show had finally gone too far.

Despite all of that, season 7 was also a pretty great season of television. It featured some truly standout episodes, and it ended on a high note with the long-awaited showdown between Rick and Negan.

6) Season 8

This was also the season that introduced us to new characters like Ezekiel and Shiva, and it gave us a look at a post-apocalyptic world that was far different from anything we’d seen before.

The Walking Dead’s ninth season is its best in recent memory. It’s a return to the show’s roots, with a focus on character development and emotion over cheap thrills.
