Rick Threatens to Kill Negan For The First Time, One of My Favorite All time Scenes!

Rick Grimes is a former sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the line of duty and fell into a coma. He awoke to find that the world had been overrun by zombies, commonly referred to as “walkers”. Rick became the leader of a group of survivors from the Atlanta, Georgia area as they attempted to sustain themselves and protect themselves from the walkers, as well as other surviving humans who were often more dangerous than the walkers themselves. The first time the group ran into Negan, is a very good first time example of this, and even the title of the episode is a call back to Jenner at the CDC “The day will come when you won’t be.” Well that day has finally come, and this is going to be SO BAD of a day for Rick that he may just regret not hitting that button at the CDC! In this blog post I will look at both Rick and Negan and will describe that first iconic scene where Rick threatened Negan as he was down on his knees, let’s look at the scene where Rick threatens to kill Negan for the first time.

The First Time Rick Met Negan

Rick was a good leader because he was always looking out for the safety of his group, even if it meant making tough decisions. He was also a fair leader, and was willing to listen to different points of view before making a decision. He did however make some rash and inexperienced decisions at earlier points within the show, like when he failed to realize how powerful a group Negan was in the first place, or when he over-estimated his hand and took out a bunch of Savior outposts, only to have that horrible demonstration happen in Season 7 episode 1. Negan had all the power here, and in terms of both fairness and getting the message across it was actually a decent idea. Rick and his people took out like 50 Saviors or something, and Negan said “alright that is not cool and I have got to hit back for this. But I want you to work for me and I know you didn’t realize how big we were so I am going to cut you a pass. I’m going to take out one of your people in brutal fashion so that you get the point and then we can move on.” It is actually less Brutal than the Governor who would have just mowed them all down, however in a more creative fashion.

Rick Grimes vs Negan, who would win in a fight?

This is a tough question to answer, as we have seen both characters go up against some pretty tough opponents and come out victorious. However, if we take into account their fighting styles, Rick is definitely the more skilled fighter. He is also more experienced and has better strategic planning skills. Negan, on the other hand, is more of a brawler and relies on his strength and size to win fights. So, in a fair fight, Rick would probably come out victorious. We see them in unfair fights near every single time though. Tricks, momentum and weapons get the upper hand every single time. In one on one hand to hand combat, it would be very close but I’d say Rick takes the win here.

I will say that the coolest scene is when Negan has Rick down on his knees and has just crushed Abraham’s skull. He gets in his face and acts all Narcissistic and cocky, and we just see Rick look at him with fear and rage in his eyes and say, with tears in his eyes “I’m gonna kill you. Not today, not tomorrow, but I’m gonna kill you, and NOTHING is gonna change that. You’re all already dead.” Pretty badass.

Who is Rick’s right hand man, Daryl or Glenn?

This is another tough question, as both Daryl and Glenn have been invaluable members of Rick’s group. However, if we had to choose one, it would probably be Daryl. He is an excellent fighter and tracker, and has always been loyal to Rick. He has also saved Rick’s life on multiple occasions. Glenn, while also being a loyal and skilled member of the group, doesn’t have the same fighting prowess as Daryl. This is one reason why it was such a travesty that Rick lost Daryl, because he was taken, and lost Glenn, his second in command, because he was destroyed with Negan’s bat Lucille.

Final Thoughts on Rick Grimes as a Character

Rick Grimes is an excellent leader and an amazing strategist. He has saved his group multiple times and always puts their safety first. He is a great fighter and has taken down some of the toughest opponents. Daryl and Glenn are both great right hand men, but Daryl is probably the better choice due to his fighting skills and loyalty, and this makes the events of Season 7 even the more brutal. To finalize, in hand to hand I give Rick Grimes the win here.
